Memorial Day Weekend Yeast Free?

I hope that everyone had a terrific Memorial Day weekend.  My weekend was awesome.  I got more meaningful rest this past Friday night through Monday morning than I have gotten in the last 2 years.  I guess sleep deprivation is a normal part of motherhood but I don’t think I realized how tired I really was until I got some really good uninterupted sleep.  I actually slept until almost 11 AM on Saturday.  My BFF Michelle invited me to spend the weekend with her and her family at their home in Pennsylvania.  They live in a pretty woodsy area and it is just so peaceful there.  The whole weekend was all about relaxing and just doing whatever we felt like.  A break from the kids, no schedule, no appointments and limited phone/Internet was just what I needed.

Although the weekend was so beneficial to my overall well being it was not at all yeast free.  I don’t think I strayed so far from the candida diet, as I did limit my intake of sugar, bread and some other candida diet offenders.  I tried to just eat things in moderation whether they were yeast free or not.   Michelle was probably more concerned about my staying yeast free than I was (I have very supportive friends).  If I had to name one major downfall this weekend it would have to be RIBS.  Juicy, mouthwatering, finger licking good ribs.  It had been so long since I had ribs I did overdo it a bit.  We ate ribs 2 out of 3 nights and I ate them until I was completely stuffed.  It wasn’t like I could just whip up some yeast free barbecue sauce for my ribs anyway, so I just went with the flow.  This was rather spontaneous trip so I didn’t get to plan any meals ahead of time but the trip did get me thinking about planning better for the rest of the summer especially for our vacation in August.  There are some classic summer foods that I would like to enjoy but I will have to figure out how to make them yeast free first.  I think a good place to start is with developing a yeast free barbecue sauce.  This will help me to dress up a lot of the meats that I like to throw on the grill.   I am so glad the summer is finally here and I will embrace it as yeast free as possible.

I hope you don’t mind but I am going to skip the menu this week.  I am going to be preparing some quick yeast free meals already posted this week to tackle some other things.  The weekly candida diet menu will be back on Sunday, June 6.  Have a great week!

    Hi Melissa,

I hope that you are well. Coming up with a good yeast free barbecue sauce is proving very difficult for me too. It seems that things like sugar, molasses and corn syrup are key ingredients in barbecue sauce and are difficult to substitute with yeast free ingredients without compromising taste. I will however keep trying and hopefully can come up with a good substitute for us candida dieters. Cross your fingers!

    Be well,
    Tennille
