Yeast Free Onion Dip

When it is time to make onion dip, the first thing that comes to my mind is Lipton Onion Soup Mix.  Lipton Onion Soup Mix is like magic in a packet.  This soup mix can help you easily create delicious soups, burgers and dips.  Add 1 packet of Lipton Onion Soup Mix to 1 cup of sour cream and voila you have a tasty and very popular onion dip.  So what’s in this magical packet? The ingredients in Lipton Onion Soup Mix are dehydrated onions, salt, cornstarch, onion powder, sugar, corn syrup, hydrolyzed soy protein, caramel color, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, monosodium glutamate, yeast extract, natural flavors, disodium inosinate and disodium guanylate.

So, as you can see Lipton Onion Soup Mix is not yeast free.  Sour cream is also not yeast free but I decided to use the classic Lipton Soup Onion Dip for inspiration.  Given the popularity of this dip, I was able to quickly find a copycat recipe online to use for guidance.  This Yeast Free Onion Dip contains plain unsweetened yogurt, herbs, spices and beef bouillon.  The hardest part of preparing this dip was making yeast free beef bouillon.  While making beef bouillon was totally worth the extra effort, as it made the dip more flavorful, the dip was delicious even without it.  If you are strapped for time and do not have any yeast free beef bouillon on hand, just omit it.  My family loved this dip and my eldest daughter kept insisting that it was the original.

Diamond Crystal Fine Sea Salt
McCormick Celery Seed

Yeast Free Onion Dip
Recipe type: Seasoning

  • 1 cup unsweetened yogurt
  • ¼ cup dried chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons yeast free beef bouillon (optional)
  • 1 and ¼ teaspoons onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon celery seed
  1. Combine all ingredients in coverable bowl and mix thoroughly
  2. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving
